Corky 'The Cat' (as nicknamed by Eurosport's Carlton Kirby) spent 3 years training and sold the family home back in 2013 to fulfil his dream of competing in the Dakar Rally. His 1st attempt in 2015 ended suddenly at the end of day 4 with a crash resulting in a few broken bones. He returned in 2016 where a mechanical problem finally saw him exit the event at the end of day 12. Go Trail Riding was set up to help get raise the funds needed for Corky to race in the Dakar. He is back in training and hoping to return to the Dakar in 2019

2017 Rally Report

Corky took 2 1st in class wins in the Tuareg & Morocco Desert Challenge rallies in March/April this year. He was racing his purpose built KTM LC8 Rally wich had been heavily modified with an oil cooler, bigger radiator, custom nav tower, rear oil tank, rally fairing, and bigger/better suspension.

The Tuareg Rallye: The event is infamous for its relentless difficult terrain, and includes some 500km's of the toughest dune riding of any event. Chris did his own service choosing to stay away from the usual service teams that dominate the event. During the Kings Stage a miscalculation saw the LC8 run out of fuel just 6k from the end of the special dropping Corky to 6th place overall.

Morocco Desert Challenge: The rally started in Agadir and finished in Saidia, and boasts to be the 3rd biggest rally after the Silk Way and Dakar. Corky increased the difficulty by riding in the 'Malle Moto' class which meant he was allowed no assistance and lived out of 2 metal boxes. A split fuel line on day 1, and having to nurse the bike home due to the mousse failing on day 6, had him finish a respectable 17th overall.

2 Day Dartmoor Adventure

We had a great time on our 1st 2 day tour which circumnavigated Dartmoor. The 2 days riding took us to places we normally just don't get time to visit like the Devils Steps, The Corkscrew, Lopwell, and many more.

With some 100 lanes available on the 1st day which included crossing over the River Tavy, wrestling the bikes up Devils Steps, and then finishing the day off with a very technical ascent. The tranquil campsite set in woodlands was a welcome sight after a long day. After pitching the tents and having a shower we sat around the camp fire cooking our dinner and exchanging stories of the days riding.

Next day the support vehicle collected our belongings and we set off back to Okehampton with 150 lanes on offer including the likes of Tally Ho, Slippery Sam, Tipley, Simms, and Manaton. There was some tired but very happy riders at the end of the weekend - it was a great experience and gave me the best 2 days riding I've had in Devon. Very much looking forward to the next one.

Our next scheduled events in September and October are fully booked but we hope to squeeze in another on the 6th and 7th of August. Please click here for more info
